The Virtual Reality Laboratory (VR Lab) is one of research laboratories of the Department of Information Technology of the Poznań University of Economics and Business. In this laboratory research in the fields of virtual and augmented reality is being performed.
Effective presentation of virtual environments and natural interaction of users with high-quality virtual objects requires advanced infrastructure. The VR Lab is equipped with hardware and software allowing high-quality acquisition of 3D models (by scanning physical objects and their motion), advanced user interaction (with body movements, gestures and touch) and presentation of virtual environments with a variety of Head-Mounted Displays (HMD), interactive Powerwall system and CAVE (Cave Automatic Virtual Environment).
Research in the field of virtual and augmented reality is being performed in the Department of Information Technology for over 20 years. The VR Lab enables us to expand the scope of our research over the whole cycle of building and practical use of VR/AR applications, including methods of designing VR/AR content and applications, presentation of VR and AR environments to end-users equipped with immersive and mobile interfaces, and methods of interaction between users and objects in virtual environments. It is possible to study users’ perception of virtual environments and to experimentally evaluate practical usage of VR/AR in various application areas. Application fields include e-commerce, maintenance, marketing, cultural heritage, education, entertainment, engineering, architecture and rapid prototyping of products. In all these fields the use of VR/AR techniques opens new, unprecedented opportunities.
